Description

The International Lifeline Fund and Aprovecho Research Center led a research mission in Darfur to look at fuel efficient stoves. The objective was to look at existing use of fuel efficient stove, suggest improvements and look to expand the fuel efficient stove programs to all refugee camps by using the most sustainable fuels and efficient stoves. The report details the current performance of the existing stoves, types of indigenous material used and the receptivity of the stoves by the local community. It also considers the limitations of fuel efficient stoves and the constraints in expanding the program including the difficultly in sourcing alternative fuels. The report concludes with recommendations to the humanitarian community working in Darfur, including the UN agencies, local governments and NGOs.
