Description

The purpose of this handbook is to serve as a guidance document for UNHCR programmed and technical staff to manage energy issues particularly pertaining to cooking in refugee situations. The handbook covers three areas; the energy conversation section provides guidance around how to implement more fuel-efficient cooking techniques, use what is available locally and use of more fuel efficient stoves, the alternative fuel section looks how to conduct due-diligence on whether an alternative fuel is require and if so how to select an appropriate alternative fuel. The final focus of the handbook is on energy supply, where only if there are no sustainable local sources of fuel of types of cookstoves, then importing cookstoves and fuels should considered and programmed into organizing energy supply.
