Project Description

In 2008, ILF began distributing FES to refugees living in the Ifo Camp ID 56 and Hagadera Camp ID 56 in Dadaab, Garissa District, Kenya. Establishing a stove production factory in Ifo 1 camp, Lifeline provided local employment for refugees to oversee the production of its fuel-saving stoves, as well as training and distribution activities throughout the camps. The primary objective of the project is to empower disadvantaged individuals by providing them with tools to improve the quality of their lives. There are several issues that impacted the outcomes of the project; the rains made it difficult for some beneficiaries to reach the distribution points. Some of the beneficiaries were found to have relocated to other places and could not be traced to collect their stoves. General security in Dadaab made it difficult to monitor distributions/trainings regularly. Some of the training venues did not have any shade cover which made it uncomfortable for beneficiaries to receive trainings in Dadaab heat as they were unable to concentrate. Delays in supply and materials for the stoves created delays in production.
