Project Description

The development objective of the project is to improve the well-being of the people of Sudan, and the rural population in particular, by improving the supply of fuel wood and other forest products and increasing food security through the conservation of forests and soils. The project has several objectives including: (1) strengthening the Forest Administration in Sudan to prepare and implement a national reforestation and fuel wood production plan; (2) support the Forest Administration in meeting the needs of people for forest products and fuel wood, in particular, through integrated management of forests; (3) capacity-building of Forestry Extension service; (4) training of Forest Administration staff; and (5) development and dissemination of fuel-efficient stoves and alternative fuel to reduce environmental impacts. The project is considered to be successful as there was high adoption rate of stoves in some parts of the project area.
