Project Description

Expanding the fuel-efficient stove initiative pioneered by FAO and German Agro Action (GAA) in the Kutum area, the project supported the training of trainees in IDP camps throughout Darfur, in partnership with the Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG) and other implementing partners (Help Age International, GAA). The project facilitated expansion of the training of trainees programme currently supported by FAO and ITDG and trained additional female-headed households in the construction and use of the fuel-efficient stoves. The objective of the east Sudan and Darfur component was to provide humanitarian assistance to the conflict and drought-affected people (IDPs and host communities) in Kassala, Red Sea States, Butana plains and Darfur. As a result of the project, pressure on already deteriorating natural resources around IDP camps was reduced, environmental awareness was promoted and women were empowered and protected by the availability of the labor-saving technology.
